The pleasure ship Giant Sailer ^TM is a former freighter which has been modified and equipped with a super sail. Enough space and cabines are provided for accomodating about a thousand passangers who want fun and action while on board. Even with applied low fares, the return on investment for this new type of vessel is, when compared with conventional container ships, substantially higher. Also the energy costs are less, since wind power is used most of the time instead of diesel engines.

The sail, which can be displaced freely towards the bow and the stern, is of today's most efficient design. It has an action radius of 270 degrees, meaning that three fourths of the winds blowing in all the possible directions can be utilized for achieving the forward motion of the ship.

Manual control of the sail and mast is not required, since this is accomplished by the computer which uses the data transmitted by wind measuring devices. This approach also allows the reduction of the undesirable swaying and rolling of the vessel and minimizes the slant of the mast.

To increase the stability as a whole, a special keel and large size stabilizers are installed. The sail can be rolled-up and attached to the deck in case of heavy weather or an upcoming storm.

The sail can be used for slowing down and stopping. On the other hand, the extraordinary height of this ship's mast allows to take advantage of the stronger winds usually prevailing at some distance above the surface of the water.

Der Giant Sailer ^TM ist ein Frachtschiff, welches auf ein Partyboot mit Segelantrieb umgerüstet wurde. Etwa 1000 Rucksacktouristen sollen mit viel Action und Fun über das Meer reisen können. Obwohl der Passagierpreis sehr gering ist, ist die Rendite weitaus höher als bei einem herkömmlichen Frachtschiff. Auch die Energiekosten sind um ein vielfaches geringer, weil meist ohne Motor gefahren werden kann.

Das Segel, welches sich wie ein Surfsegel nach hinten und nach vorne bewegen lässt, ist in seiner Bauart das wirkungsvollste überhaupt: Es hat einen Wirkungskreis von 270 Grad, das bedeutet, das 3/4 der Winde aus allen Himmelsrichtungen zum Vorwärtsfahren genutzt werden können. Eine manuelle Steuerung des Segels oder des Mastes ist nicht mehr nötig, weil alles anhand eines Windstärke- und Windrichtungsmessgerätes computergesteuert wird. Auf diese Weise können auch Schwankungen und Schräglage des Schiffes vermindert werden. Um generell eine bessere Stabilität zu erreichen, sind die Schlingerkiele vergrössert. Sollte ein Sturm aufkommen, so wird das Segel eingerollt und über das Deck gelegt. Auch kann das Segel zum Bremsen des Schiffes verwendet werden. Durch die Höhe des Segels können im Gegensatz zu Segelbooten auch schnellere Winde genutzt werden.
